Whale Watching
In season from July to November
During the months of July to the end of November migrating Humpback Whales and the occasional Southern Right Whale frequent the shores of Inhaca to mate, give birth and nurture their offspring before making their long and arduous trip back to the Antarctic to feed. Up to between 30 to 40 Humpback Whales a day have been spotted on occasion around Inhaca Island.
These are particularly special and cherished months where we can observe, understand and learn about these mighty creatures and share in their tenderness for their offspring as they interact with each other. We marvel at the power of their breaching, at their curiosity in spy hopping and at the complex social structure as posses of powerful males all vie for the attention of one female to gain the right to mate. Whale watching is a truly inspirational experience for all concerned.
The trip can take up to 3 hours and sighting of Whales is not guaranteed. Please look out for the Bottlenose and Spinner Dolphins who are frequently spotted around the northern waters of Inhaca Island.
