Fine Wine Selection

In our quest to provide our Lodge with exciting wines, we have linked up with Mike Bampfield-Duggan of Wine Concepts, one of  Cape Town`s leading specialist wine shops.

Wine Concepts started by designing a wine list for The Blue Train in 1998, which continues to run smoothly today.  Since then they have managed a number of prestigious hotels, game lodges (Including Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Retreat – voted the Best Hotel in the World for 2009)  and restaurant wine lists.  Over the past 11 years they have won numerous wine list awards on behalf of their clients.

Mike has personally selected for our Lodge a classic range of new and different wines, giving you an opportunity to taste unusual or unheard of blends further adding to the ambiance of your stay

Food and Wine Pairing

To assist with your choice of wine for your meal, Mike has the following recommendations:

  • White fish grilled or baked     –          Chardonnay/Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc
  • Oily fish grilled or baked     –          Chardonnay/Semillon/Pinot noir
  • Shellfish     –          White blend/Chardonnay/Champagne
  • Smoked fish     –           Rhine Riesling/Unwooded Chardonnay
  • Grilled Steak/Beef     –           Pinotage/Red blend/Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Lamb roasted/Grilled     –           Pinot noir/Red blend/Merlot
  • Port roasted/Grilled     –            Pinotage/Rose/Rhine Riesling
  • Venison roasted/Grilled     –           Shiraz/Pinotage
  • Game birds roasted/Grilled     –            Semillon/Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon
